Characteristics of composite insulators

High mechanical strength: The composite insulator core rod, which bears mechanical loads, uses synthetic resin fiberglass. Its tensile strength is 5 to 10 times that of porcelain, and it has good tensile, bending, and impact resistance.
Lightweight: Its own weight is relatively light, only about 1/10 of the weight of a porcelain insulator, making it easy to transport and install. For example, a 220kV suspension composite insulator weighs only 10kg, while a conventional disc-type suspension porcelain insulator string weighs 73kg, only 14% of the porcelain insulator string.
Good insulation performance: Silicone rubber is a hydrophobic material, and its insulation performance is excellent, especially in severely polluted and humid atmospheric conditions. The flashover voltage is more than twice that of a porcelain insulator with the same creepage distance, greatly reducing the amount of anti-fouling cleaning work.
Good arc resistance: It has good arc resistance and can resist arc erosion to a certain extent.
Small size, good elasticity: The silicone rubber umbrella is soft and not easily damaged, and the core rod has a small cross-section, resulting in small product size, light weight, high bending strength, and easy manufacturing of insulators above 300 to 500kV and 300N.
